Sender's name: Morris Poore

Hi John.
I feel like I have been called to preach for a long time but I don't have the schooling outside of the books that I have read self taught as it were...but I love to talk about the Lord any chance I have.
I have had people over the years tell me that I should become a preacher, minister, ect. do you have any suggestions or thought on the matter?
I have read you articles on your site on "being a Preacher" and enjoyed them.
Thanks for your time.
Your Brother in Christ

This is something you should carefully commit to prayer.  God may use you wonderfully where you are currently at, or if you go on someplace else.  Journal about it and ask God to search your heart.  Examine your motivation.  Talk to others about it.  Talk to other preachers and ministers about it.  Talk about it with your elders.  Recognize going in that you will be God's man and no one else.  Like Jeremiah, it may mean at times that you feel like you are standing completely alone.  However, also recognize that you would be carrying out God's purposes, which is what really matters.

I would recommend a book, "The Christian Minister" by Sam Stone, and the book "What they didn't Teach you in Seminary."  They might help.  I wish I could tell you more, but that is about the best I can do.  Each person's situation is different, but these principles should help.
